FCC Shows Commitment towards Mobile Broadband
Saturday, October 31st, 2009Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Julius Genachowski, in his recent
statement during a CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show in San Diego, California, expressed his hopes that mobile broadband would contribute significantly towards the economic development of the US.
In his speech, Genachowski said that the mobile broadband industry has a bright future ahead. He added that earlier, mobile technology was envisaged as a back-up system in case of emergency, but with its increasing popularity, it has become a priority product for all companies. He hoped that the technology is bound to gain more importance in future.
Genachowski also said that his organisation would support the industry by giving larger broadband spectrum to the operators.
The chairman added that he understands that wireless and normal broadband connections are different and have different needs. He also touched upon the sensitive issue of net neutrality, and assured that the government would do its best to resolve the issue in the best interests of the operators. Regulations on net neutrality have been formulated to stop operators from patronising some websites to the harm of others.
However, the operators believe that any kind of government intervention in this regard will lead to interference with the lawful network management that is necessary to monitor and regulate net traffic.
